About

I was never really that interested in photography. I love to draw, so my focus was on sketching things rather than taking photos of them. As I got older and began to travel more, I bought a small digital camera to record what I’d seen and where I’d been, like many others. Then, one day on holiday, as Tim moaned at me for stopping for what must have been the gazillionth time to take a shot of some random building, I realised that photography had somehow crept up on me.

I went out and bought a DSLR. I went home, flicked it to manual mode, read the manual from start to finish and started to practise. This blog is a record of my progress from then to now.

I love the low light capabilities of modern DSLRs, because I’m not a big lover of flash. I think there are some fantabulous staged flash photos out there, but for natural shots, it interrupts the very moment you wish to capture.

I really appreciate any constructive comments on my work. Thanks for stopping by.

Me, in short:

Things that make me zing:
Pasta, tea, drawing – you can see more at kimhewitt.com, quantum physics…the best mind trip, lie ins, travelling, sunflowers, cruising!

Things that slate my grate (I know it’s supposed to be grate my slate, but slate my grate sounds so much better!):
Writing about yourself in the 3rd person, especially when it’s obvious you wrote it yourself. The red exclamation mark, when it’s overused on e-mails.
